Dydd Santes Dwynwen hapus ..........

That's Happy St Dwynwen's day to non Welsh speakers.

St Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, which makes her the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine and today is her day.

Dwynwen lived during the 5th century and there are few  versions of her story but I'm going to go with this one........
Dwynwen fell in love with a prince called Maelon Dafodrill, but unfortunately her father had already arranged that she should marry someone else. Dwynwen was so upset that she could not marry Maelon that she begged God to make her forget him. After falling asleep, Dwynwen was visited by an angel, who appeared carrying a sweet potion designed to erase all memory of Maelon and turn him into a block of ice. God then gave three wishes to Dwynwen. Her first wish was that Maelon be thawed; her second that God meet the hopes and dreams of true lovers; and third, that she should never marry.

Not quite the happy ending we were all hoping for is it! But in her 3 wishes Dwynwen did a selfless thing, wishing for the benefit of others, for Maelon, who I'm sure was very glad to be unfrozen and for all the people out there in the world to have their hopes and dreams fulfilled.

So Happy St Dwynwen's day to you all and especially all the special care babies out there, my one wish is for them all, whether still in hospital or back at home, to be happy and to be loved  xx
